Entry charge is for you to experience the music segment only, the flea market segment does not have any entry charges as this will be held outside the venue. Charges for flea market stall rental will still apply though.

And why are we doing this?

The good news is: I Am David Sparkle has been selected to play a showcase performance at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin, Texas (USA!) beginning from 18 March onwards.

As far as the band knows, it will be only the 3rd Singaporean act to have been selected for this, with Electrico and The Great Spy Experiment having played there in 2007.

The bad news is: the costs for the band entourage (7 persons in total) to travel up to the US and play the SXSW showcase as well as its planned tour dates are ENORMOUS – we are looking in the region of more than S$30,000 (Ouch!) Besides pooling whatever money we can, and applying for grants, we still need an injection of funds to help us pay for costs for this, and this is why we have decided to hold this fundraiser party.

All the bands and the DJs have kindly agreed to support our cause and perform here without any performance charges, just so that we can raise funds to travel. And so, to all the performers listed here, we cannot thank you enough!

So this is our appeal to you – If you are a fan of I Am David Sparkle, or of KittyWu Records, or of any of the performers listed here, or even just want to support a Singaporean band that is going to travel to SXSW and have a great party in the process, please come to this event!

We need your support to raise additional funds, and with your help, this Singaporean band is gonna hit Stateside and show them that “Hey – we’ve got music that rocks, you know?”

PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT!

Love,
I Am David Sparkle

"To Texas And Back: A Benefit Show for I Am David Sparkle" is presented to you by I Am David Sparkle and KittyWu Records, with support from venue partner Home Club and flea market partner Flea.Fly.Flo.Fun.

So we....and then?
Monday, January 12, 20097:38 AM
So we go to school, study hard, and get good grades, and then?

So we build relationships/friendships, and we make some effort to maintain some of em, and then?

So we attempt to pursue our dreams and ambitions, we might fail or succeed, and then?

So we try to get good jobs, work hard for money, and then?

So we make it a point to visit our parents and family members after moving out on our own, and then?

So we get married, have children, take care of them the best we can, watch them grow up and drift away from us, and then?

So we grow old, 'haps a bit too old and useless to continue pursuing whatever dreams we have left, also a bit too old and useless for our children to appreciate us, and a bit too old to manage anything else for that matter, and then?

If I were you, I wouldn't take life so seriously. I don't.

The most major wedding is my Dad's wedding which will happen in 2 weeks. Looks like 2009 is gonna be quite an eventful year once again for me, having my dad's remarriage as a kickstart.

Bangkok: mourning begins as police sift through Santika nightclub rubble

The scene outside the ruined Santika nightclub in Bangkok on Friday

As roses piled up on a makeshift trestle in front of the charred Santika nightclub in Bangkok where as many as 60 party-goers lost their lives in the early hours of the New Year, Thai police continued to sift through the ash and rubble to try and determine the trigger for the carnage.

Many have blamed celebratory fireworks and sparklers lit to see in the New Year, others have pointed at a possible electrical fault.

Officials have slammed the lack of emergency exits and sprinkler systems. The Thai press reported the club had only one fire extinguisher to cover three floors and as many as 1,000 revellers.

Friends and relatives of the dead left flowers at midnight last night, almost exactly 24 hours after the flames began their deadly assault on one of Bangkok's most popular nightclubs.

As well as the dead, who include a Singapore national, more than 200 people were injured in the inferno, including as many as 35 foreigners, including at least four Britons, as well as Australians and French and Dutch nationals.

As video footage emerged today showing happy revellers waving sparklers inside the club just moments before it caught fire, the Thai police continued their investigation into the causes of the fire that ripped through the two-storey building, trapping hundreds inside.

Alex Wargacki, a 29-year-old British forex trader, said from his hospital bed that he tried an emergency exit when he felt the heat in the Santika Club, only to find it was welded shut to prevent the pilfering of liquor.

Originally from Finchley in North London, Mr Wargacki said he remained unsure whether he would abandon his life in Thailand, where he was lived for the past four years, and return to the UK.

"It depends on their responses to what's happening," he said. "I want someone to pick up the tab here. At the moment, I need cash. I have to pay this bill. I don't know what it's going to cost, maybe three or four thousand pounds."

As well as burns on his face and hands, Mr Wargacki has lungs affected by smoke inhalation, and the hospital doctors have been trying to extract carbon from his lungs.

He is one of four Britons injured in the blaze, including Steven Hall and Oliver Smart. Friends of an unnamed female British school teacher, aged 34, believe she was killed in the fire, however the Foreign and Commonwealth Office have said that it did not believe that there were any Britons among the dead.

Briton Oliver Smart is also in the intensive care unit at the Bangkok hospital where Mr Wargacki is recuperating. Mr Smart has been sedated for the last two days, but Mr Wargacki said they were brought it at the some time, and Mr Smart was screaming.

"He came in on the gurney next to mine," he said. "I think one of his lungs collapsed."

Steven Hall, from South Wales, has third degree burns to his left hand and his back, and a fourth Briton, who wants to remain anonymous, has also been quite seriously injured.

Mr Wargacki said he was lucky he was getting hospital treatment.

"Some people I know went home," he said. "Some of the Thais are just lying in bed."

Reflections on 2008 and Resolutions for 2009.
Thursday, January 1, 20093:37 PM
Major happenings of 2008
1. Graduation from Singapore Polytechnic with a Diploma. aka Separating ways from people I have interacted, befriended, and worked with for a good 3 years.
2. Being a Singtel Grid Girl. aka Earning Race Queen status siol! (Even though if you look me up and down in person, I emit no race queen aura at all.)
3. Medea, my third theatrical experience.
4. Being dumped for the first time. aka experiencing genuine heartbreak from a love lost for the first time.
5. Ah Ma went on to a better place. aka experiencing genuine heartbreak from loss of a close loved one. (for the first time yet again)
6. Got my first (and second) tattoo in order to ease the pain.
7. Being recruited into Kevin Mathews' Groovy People as keyboardist and backup vocalist.
8. Being one of Female's 50 Gorgeous People of 2008. (as superficial as it may be)
9. Meeting the most amazing man ever to step on this earth, Mr Achmad Amran Khamis. aka receiving a new love at the most unexpected time.
10. Dating a Malay man seriously, despite swearing never to date a Malay man just a few weeks before meeting him, for the first time.

As you can see, 2008 has been a huge roller coaster ride for me, with all the different huge occasions throughout the year. It's amazing because every year, this is the case for me. I am very thankful that my life is always so eventful, because it makes me look forward to the future, and I keep learning in the process.

From 2008, I have learnt how it is like to truly mourn for someone, to truly miss someone so much, and knowing that you'll never see him/her again. I have learnt that heartbreak is not as easy as some other couples make it seem to be. I have learnt how to be strong and to move on, because death and loss is part and parcel of life and we need to learn how to embrace it. I have learnt that with every loss, there is a new gain, even if it doesn't arrive immediately.

I have learnt that glitz and glamour are not really as fun and glamorous as they look. I have been exposed to public criticism for the first time and learnt how there is no need to please everyone, because nobody will ever be truly pleased. I have learnt how it feels like to be seen as just an object by fellow human beings who do not regard my existence as "Esther Low", but as an item without a soul. I have learnt how it really is like in showbiz, but I still want to do it because I love to entertain.

My Resolutions for 2009
They are simple, but yet hard to achieve. I want to live through each moment positively. I want to learn not to be affected by the opinions of people that I don't care about. I want to do things my own way, otherwise why do I live this wretched life if I'm living it for others?

Goodbye 2008, hello 2009.

Greetings

Hello whole wide world. My name is Esther. I am The Dragon Queen. Nice to meet you all.
