Camera Obscura

Was pretty unimpressive. I can now understand why Adam said he would rather go to Kanye West.
I must say that their CD is seriously a lot more shiok than their live performance. Their live performance was seriously a drab. Their songs mostly circled around similar chord progressions and melodies. Only a handful of songs were outstanding.
The only 2 members of the band that I found cool were the lead guitarist, and the guy who plays all the miscellaneous stuff. Mainly because their instruments stood out a lot more than the others and had more interesting things to look out for.
The keyboardist is one of the members I have to comment about. I don't know if it's just me, but she seems to look pretty unconfident about her playing. She often gave the face that shows "oops I made a mistake". And I tried to spot the mistakes in her keyboard playing since she kept giving that face. But I couldn't. and why? Because I could hardly hear the keyboards! It was as if she turned the keyboards down because she was afraid the audience would hear them bright and clear. And this is a real pity because I feel that the organs and other keyboard sounds play a major role in Camera Obscura's songs. So I think this is a major reason why their live performance was so unimpressive as compared to their album. Because one of the leading instruments could barely be heard! therefore causing the whole performance to sound thin and boring.
It was also really weird that the keyboardist seemed to be exerting so much strength in her playing when I could barely hear anything. this makes me think of Amanda Ling (random). cuz she looks like she exerts a lot of strength when she plays the keyboards too. But at least I can hear Ling's keyboard's loud and clear during Electrico's shows. So it didn't look weird.
Also, the keyboardist was supposed to be harmonizing with the lead vocalist in many parts, but I could barely hear her too! In fact I COULDN'T hear her at all in most of the songs. Which made me wonder if she was just mouthing the words? Because she liked the song a lot? But then again I went home to listen to the album again, and yes, there was supposed to be harmonizing in those songs. Only the lead guitarist's vocals could be heard loud and clear.
Camera Obscura's performance was a far cry from The Bird and The Bee's, which completely blew me away. TBTB did a cover (How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees) for their encore song also, but it was strong and moving, unlike CO's cover of Super Duper by Abba, which was extremely boring, and flat.
TBTB's vocal harmonies were fucking strong, and their whole ensemble all stood out for their own qualities, very much unlike CO, whose only members that stood out were the lead guit, and miscellaneous guy.
Sorry Camera Obscura fans!
it's funny

It's funny how I always don't get the things that I expect to get, and how I always get the things that I least expect to get.
I never thought I would be a top 20 Singtel Grid Girl, nor one of the 50 Female Gorgeous People this yr, nor that I would end up with Mr Amran Khamis. But yeah I guess things happen when you least expect them to.
srsly emo

I'm really damn sick and tired of constantly being the one trying to ask people out, to maintain relationships and what not. I'm tired of being the only one who cares. I don't want to be the middleman anymore. Why should I bother when they don't bother?
Sms people, don't get replies. Or having ppl abandon the appointment on the day itself. And then when I sms them to ask them what's with the abandonment, they don't even bother to fucking reply. Fuck all that shit.
I can't be bothered about those who don't bother anymore. Srsly.
I can't be bothered to initiate all these "heppy-get-togethers" and all these fucked up nonsense anymore.
Okay bye.
stressful day today

It is a real bitch trying to appease the residents who are unable to collect their yellow pages due to the problem with available stock. Plus these are SINGAPOREANS we are talking about. Singaporeans are a real bitchy lot. It's a bitch to deal with bitches.
Today will be the last day of the eventful journey I had with my trusty white criss cross pumps. Goodbye. You have been a good travel companion, though a little smelly at the end.

Happy First Month!!!
Tuesday, October 14, 200812:20 PM
13th October 2008 was our first month anniversary and that was just yesterday!! =D =D =D =D
I can't believe I did not take any photos. Speaking of which I am supposed to blog about the year's most exciting experience which took place on Sunday, A FRIGGIN SPITTING COBRA IN BABY'S HOUSEMATE'S SHOE!! But I have yet to upload the photos.
Anyway it was really nice and chill last night. =) He got me a pair of earrings from Dorothy Perkins and a mushy card, and I didn't get him anything. Lol. we went to my favouritest steak restaurant in the world, The Steak House, which is at Clarke Quay. I decided to pay for the meal because he's been the sweetest thing so far, treating me very well. Tee hee!
And then after that we went to the dessert cafe opposite The Steak House. If I'm not wrong it's called Nectarine or something. Or was it The Nectar? Whatever it is, the cakes we had were so yummacious!! We had a Dark Chocolate Opera and a Chicago Cheesecake, and the flavours are so rich. And they go damn well with the tea we had. I had Moroccan Mint, and he had Pomegranate, and I can't speak for his pomegranate tea as I didn't try it, but my Moroccan Mint tea was really good with all these sweet stuff. I felt like some classy Moroccan Princess!
And then after that we took a cab back to Portsdown Road and chilled at a very chill and classy bar there called, Klee. THE DRINKS THERE ARE AWESOME!! I had this strawberry sour cocktail thingy, and they actually mash the real strawberries with the alcohol, not some fake strawberry syrup, and it tastes bloody damn good. There are 2 ounces of alcohol in it and yet I wasn't overwhelmed because the taste of the cocktail was so refreshing and so "natural"!
Such a pity Klee is hidden away in Portsdown, so it's quite out of the way and not a lot of people actually go there, as compared to those areas in town.
So that was how we celebrated our great 1st mth anniversary. Nice and chill.
If You Love Me, Follow Me
Friday, October 10, 200811:04 AM
Caught this French movie (it's the french movie festival now!), If You Love Me, Follow Me, with baby last night.
All I can say is that, this is an excellent excellent beautiful movie, that baby and I and most other people with dreams can relate to.
It is about this man who is a successful doctor, who one day decides that he is sick of his job, and quits his job to form a rock band as music has always been his dream. He overcomes differences and different kinds of pressures just to follow this dream.
This movie is not a typical movie with a typical ending. It is a movie packed with meaning and beauty, and yet it is extremely comedic and it's jokes and randomness are very tasteful. There are random scenes of a couple
having sex with an orange between their chests (ahem someone), two men kissing, etc. But these random scenes just fit in well and are not abrupt or weird.
I would highly recommend it to people who have a dream to chase and are not afraid of chasing them.
So far baby and I have caught 2 French films from the french film festival and it is freaky how much we can relate to both the movies. We can totally relate to this one because both of us wanna be rockstars. Haha.
The earlier one we caught was called Bad Faith, about a couple with different faiths, one a Muslim, and one a Jew. The Jew gets pregnant with the Muslim's kid, and they have to overcome the social stigma and pressures from family and tradition in order to make their relationship work. In our case, I'm the Christian, baby's the Muslim (although only on his IC). Right now obviously we have no problems becuase we have only just started. But there'll definitely be some hiccups that will arise in the future. But I guess we'll take them in our stride.
P.S. It was very nice seeing you last night. And this morning. =)
what does music mean to you anymore?
Thursday, October 9, 200810:34 AM
What were you thinking when you wrote that song and when you composed that piece of music?
Did you feel the lyrics and the melodies of the song?
Did you even agree with what you were writing?
What were you trying to express through the song?
Or did all these even matter to you?
Can I even consider the song you wrote a song? Or a production?
There is a difference between music, and production.
People these days have gotten them all mixed up.
When you make something just so that it brings you money, that is a production.
When you make something based on formula and systematic process, that is a production.
So therefore I don't consider the music that you make, music to me. I consider them as productions.
I've heard your personal stuff and they really kicked ass because you meant what you wrote. And so I look up to you because you really rock at what you do. So it really disappoints whenever you send me one of your commercial productions for me to take a listen. Because they lack so much soul and meaning, purely a piece of production made with a formula. An overused formula.
I wish I could tell you how I truly feel. But that would be really out of hand considering my almost non-existent position and your very prominent position in the music industry.
why so serious?
Wednesday, October 8, 20082:53 PM
Today as I was crossing the road junction to the MRT Station, there was this car which accidentally drove a little bit too forward and was kinda in the way of the pedestrians. I can understand if pedestrians get slightly irritated over this, since it blocks their way.
But there was this ah beng-ish looking man in his 40s who glared at the driver in the car. The thing is he didn't glare just for a sec, he glared and he glared and he glared. Even as he walked past the car, he turned his head to keep glaring at the driver.
So my question is, why so unforgiving? It was a very small issue. The driver might have been chatting with his passenger and accidentally moved a bit too far out without realizing it (happened with Amran before. tee hee.) or it could just have been a moment of distraction. Why couldn't he let it go?
At the same time, I know of a lot of people like that, who are similarly unforgiving over other petty issues like that. But the thing is, I know that if they were to read an article about a murder, or a mass homicide in some country, or some other brutality, they would feel sorry about it, and bitch about how terrible this world has become.
Well these people do have to realize that the root of all these evil (apart from money), is also the inability to forgive, and the lack of compassion one has for another. It might be a seemingly small situation, but the bad character is still the same, which eventually leads to the bigger brutalities.
barack obama
Tuesday, October 7, 200812:29 PM
I believe that if Barack Obama did not make it for the presidential elections this time round, he will very likely just make it 4 years later if he tries again, at the older age of 51.
I hope he wins this round.
But can you just imagine if the whole world pins their hopes on him because he seems like such a trustworthy politician with all his smooth speeches and charm, and then when he finally gains presidential rule, he turns out to be no better than Mr George Bush?
It will be a letdown, but it won't be a surprise either.
focus
Monday, October 6, 200812:56 AM
So now after finding out that Singtel Grid Girls and all that modelling nonsense is not really for me, I will focus full scale on my music. Thanks to SGG, 2K is falling from the sky for me, which I will then use to get a trusty keyboard, and hopefully make lotsa yummacious magic with it.
Jammed with Watchmen today and it was shiok. Shiok because I haven't jammed with a band for so damn long. Being able to co-ordinate with other musicians and create some decent sound from it is a damn good feeling. Even if I don't necessarily listen to that kind of music.
And then I realized that nothing makes me happier than making music. Not all the makeup on my face to make me prettier, or money falling from the sky.
Okay maybe I'll give some exception to Ramboy. =) Yeah nothing makes me happier than music and Ramboy.
minoxi 5!
Wednesday, October 1, 200810:52 AM
I went to the doctor last night because I was paranoid about losing too much hair. Due to the damn F1 race and all the events that followed up to it, my hair was overstyled and exposed to all kinds of harsh agents and extreme pulling and tugging at it. I'm not exaggerating but I swear that because of all these harsh treatment, I've lost a great amount of hair.
Not to mention my accidental crash dieting last month, and the extreme stress I went through.
So the doctor gave me this hair tonic called MINOXI 5!! It came in a black box, with damn dodgy font on it.
But I trust my family doctor. So I guess I'm not too affected by the dodgy font.
For some reason I decided to read the instructions pamphlet, although it was something I didn't normally do. And I discovered that it was a product made in Israel. And I must say that I can really see the Israeliteness in the product after reading the pamphlet. The pamphlet actually sounded quite threatening, can you believe it? Lol!!
Lemme cite a couple of examples.
"
Cessation of treatment will likely lead to a renewal of hair loss and disappearance of the achieved improvement." They have already started threatening that if you stop using it, your hair will drop again. And this is only in the first paragraph.
"
While using MINOXI 5, blood, urine, kidney function and heart tests should be carried out." Cheebye it's just going to be on my fucking scalp! What's with all those tests?? Like the liquid on my scalp will somehow flow all the way into my kidney?
"
Whilst using this preparation you must be under constant medical supervision and be aware of changes in your general feeling and health. You must weigh yourself twice a week." Cheebye it's just my fucking scalp! I'm not signing up to be a suicide bomber or something! What general feeling and health all! (Baby says that perhaps users have to weigh themselves twice a week to see the gain in weight from hair growth. LOL! That effective huh??)
"
In addition to the desired effect of the medicine, adverse reactions may occur during the course of treatment with this medicine, such as: diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, headaches and local irritation." This is pretty damn threatening to me. It almost feels like the cost for hair growth is too high!
More possible side effects stated -- "
Breathing difficulties, edema in various parts of the body, swelling of the face, lack of feeling in the feet, hands or face, changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, angina pectoris, weight gain, HAIR GROWTH IN OTHER PARTS OF THE BODY, severe skin reactions in the scalp area." What the fucking cheebye?? If this is not threatening I don't know what is okay? They make it sound like you're gonna fucking die if you use this product. I'd rather not have my hair grow back.
The part I found funniest. "
Do not take medicines in the dark! Check the label and the dose each time you take your medicine. Wear glasses if you need them." Wahahahahhahaha!!! Duh!!
Did I mention that there are random exclamation marks everywhere in the pamphlet behind random sentences? Like as if they are exclaiming those instructions to us. Haha!
Most terrorizing pamphlet I've ever read. But I trust my family doctor. So I'm gonna cross my fingers, and continue taking this hair tonic. Hopefully, I'm not going to have hair growing on my neck, or have an extra eyeball growing out on my toe or something.
P.S. No disrespect to Israel, or Islam, or anything along those lines intended. I'm only laughing at the pamphlet.
